Wie läßt sich die Wirksamkeit von Mistelpräparaten in der supportiven Krebstherapie erklären?Neueste wissenschaftliche Erkenntnisse

Abstract: Actual scientific perceptions are pointed out, emphasizing the efficacy of mistletoe preparations in the supportive cancer therapy: Mistletoe extracts stabilize the DNA of peripheral blood lymphocytes. Thus, immunocompetent cells are protected against chemotherapy-induced DNA damage and loss of activity. These protective effects are restricted to normal cells. In malignant cells, cytostatic and cytotoxic effects are even greater, hence mistletoe preparations increase the efficacy of chemo-notherapy. The protective effects on the one hand and the cytostatic resp. cytotoxic effects on the other hand were found to be host tree specific. The mistletoe preparation from fir trees, HELIXOR® A, is distinguished by a high protective potential, whereas cytotoxicity is only weak. The mistletoe extract from apple trees, HELIXOR® M, however, shows a high cytotoxicity in conjunction with low protective potency. Due to these perceptions it is now possible to give new recommendations for a focussed selection of the preparations for individual indications.
