Abstract: Among the chronic clinical pictures, diabetes mellitus has extremely increased mainly as disease in the second period of life in the Western industrialized countries. In 59 patients with type I and type 11 diabetes mellitus, who were willing to keep to a constant diet during the examination phase of 6 months, the influence of a lactic fermented drink (bread drink) on the levels of blood glucose and HbA1 was examined. In the first part of the trial phase (week 012) the patients did not get bread drink,in week 12-24 the diet was supplemented with 100 ml of bread drink daily. The levels of blood glucose and HbA1 showed a significant improvement after the end of the trial phase.
