Abstract: Today, some physicians as well as patients think, that relaxation techniques are antiquated and not very efficient. The treatment of the consequences of stress, like the so-called functional disturbances with various groups of drugs showed disappointing results in practice.Modern relaxation techniques or recently developed modifications of classical methods take into consideration the various forms of relaxation (mental, physically, via respiration), which the different participants of the exercises have carried out as a result of their own socialization and previous experience in this field as well as the different ways of communication and information processing. Already in the first exercise sessions a relaxation experience is made possible in a reliable way for the majority of people in a relaxation course, and so the participants are motivated to carry out further exercises. Within the frame of these constant exercise processes an improvement of their own introspection ability and the development of a generally more calm internal basic attitude is achieved. This results in provable steps towards the avoidance of diseases. A great effectiveness of the new procedures e.g. with respect to the improvement of the rates of inability to work has been proven in various examinations for the fields of progressive muscle relaxation, holistic weight regulation and holistic exercises for the back, which are described in this article. What is especially mentioned, is the new so-called IPEG technique (technique of the Institute for Personality Development and Health Formation) for relaxation and physically oriented psychotherapy in water, for which the best effectiveness and most intensive depth of relaxation could be shown in comparison to the other known techniques.
