Abstract: On the Basis of Foucault's concept of distinct organizational structures, the author analyzes the spatial structure of the country boarding school Haubinda at the time of HERMANN LIETZ. Taking into consideration old landscape and development plans as well as the geographical conditions, he shows that the centralized layout of the buildings is aimed at both a central and a differentiated order of the country boarding school, i.e., that the idea of the ''school state'' is realized spatially, thus allowing for pedagogical surveillance.
