Abstract: The structural characteristics of Erving Goffman's ''method'' are explained and discussed in this article. This takes place against the background of interpretative sociology and is, above all, compared to ethnomethodological conversation analysis and structural hermeneutics. Methodological and research conformities as well as convergence and divergence of the approaches discussed are the focal points of interest.
