The House of the Seven Muses - A Research Project. Music therapists in Collaboration with other Creative Arts Therapists |
Journal/Book: Music Therapy International Report. 1996; 10: 45-50.
Abstract: A presentation of a Swedish research project (Enkoste) with the main goal of gaining more information about the effects of the creative arts therapies, including MT, in adult psychiatry. Team: one director and six part-time therapists (2 MT, 2 DanceT, 1 ArtT 1 ExpT). Pretests included projective tests and videotaped interviews. After one and a half years of treatment another battery of tests was conducted, and again after the end of treatment. Significant results appeared on several issues, including quality of life experience level, number of hospitalizations, functional level, level of medication. 3 MT approaches were used: Improvisational models, GIM in combination with expressive MT, and music used within expressive arts therapy (to guided fantasy journeys, a means of intrmodal transfer). A case study gives an example of two and a half years of GIM therapy in combination with improvisation. Another case study deals with performance anxiety , panic attacks and insomnia with a musician, treated in expressive arts therapy in combination with musical group improvisation.
