Abstract: The purpose of this study is to establish the existence of the burnout syndrome, and the general state of health of General Hospital doctors. The relationship between burnout syndrome, and socio-demographic and worldng conditions was studied. All the specialist doctors of the University Hospital of Salamanca were asked to complete a questionnaire composed of sociodemographic and work data, the Maslach Burnout Inventory and the Goldberg Health Questionnaire-28. The results show a medium degree of burnout related to working conditions, but unrelated to sociodemographic factors. 20% of the doctors show a high score in the GHQ-28.
