Abstract: This article presents a brief overview of selected topics in psychophysiological emotion research. Included are Le Doux' neurophysiological model of emotion, the dissociation of levels in emotion assessment, current research on emotion specificity with regard to muscular activity in the face, central nervous activity, autonomic activity with an emphasis on fear and anger and the epinephrine-norepinephrine hypothesis, specificity models, and the much debated question about basic emotions. Treated are also the autonomic perception of emotions, repression and the experimental analysis of unconscious effects of emotions.
