Entweder- oder? Überlegungen zur quantitativen und qualitativen Forschung in der Musiktherapie

Abstract: The question whether quantitative or qualitative research should be used in music therapy depends for the author on which scientific perspective the researchers chooses while investigating. In the article the author describes the quantitative and qualitative research paradigms and tries to elucidate what are advantages and shortcomings of both paradigms. Concepts like ccausality, generalizability, replicability and objectivity are focused on. Also subjects such as the music therapist acting as a researcher and the question if there should be criteria, rules or guidelines in qualitative research are discussed. The general description of qualitative research is illustrated with several qualitative music therapy research studies.
