Abstract: This paper describes a joint departmental audit of a multidisciplinary assessment unit for patients with deliberate self-harm. Our results indicated a significant gap in service delivery for this client group. Recommendations made include improvement of teaching for casualty officers, closer liaison with Accident & Emergency on-call psychiatrists and substance misuse services. With the recent U.K. Royal College of Psychiatrists consensus statement on the general hospital management of adult deliberate self-harm patients, the need for future cross-departmental audit is emphasised.
