Abstract: Research findings published during the past year strongly implicated the role of sympathetic activity in mediating the relationship between acute stressors and alteration of immune function. However, more conflicting results were obtained regarding the potential mediating influence of endocrine and serotonergic activity (eg cortisol) in the immune response to depression, as well as for the general moderating role of psychological factors (eg intrusion, personality traits and social support).
