A ''handy'' way to introduce research methods |
Journal/Book: Teach Psychol. 1996; 23: 10 Industrial Ave, Mahwah, NJ 07430-2262. Lawrence Erlbaum Assoc Inc. 168-170.
Abstract: Research on the relation between handedness and mortality sometimes reveals that older left-handed individuals are underrepresented in the population (Coren & Halpern, 1991; Porac & Coren, 1981). This relation provides an engaging vehicle for introducing research methods in a variety of courses. Specifically, students attempt to explain why handedness is related to mortality after viewing a graphical representation of this relation. While explaining the relation, students address many issues that are essential for understanding the research process.
