Abstract: The global quality of life (QOL) of a sample of long-term psychiatric clay patients was assessed. Associations between global quality of life and background sociodemographic factors, objective and subjective QOL indices in a range of life domains and measures of psychiatric morbidity were explored in a series of univariate and multivariate analyses. The final regression model accounted for 62% of the variance in global QOL, with depressed mood by far the most significant individual factor (accounting for 29% of the variance). The results suggest that attention to potentially remediable clinical problems should be seen as a priority for services if the aim is to maximise QOL.
