The privileged position of religion in the clinical dialogue

Abstract: The paper reviews the history of the relationship between the fields of depth psychology and religion and then offers three approaches to understanding religious material in the clinical setting: the metaphorical, the functional and the foundational. Clinical vignettes are offered for illustrative purposes.
