Abstract: The relationship between the clinical psychologist and the clinical researcher is often presented as an integrated model in which the researcher conceives and the clinician executes. We argue that this is an unworkable model because there are independent fields, each with its own problems and its own styles of thinking. The pleat is made to deintegrate the two fields, to have them interact on the basis of mutual respect but not to merge with each other.
