Abstract: Pressured by a quick publication deadline, enervated by three decades of promoting practice-research integration, and inspired by Julie Andrews's return to Broadway, the author reviews three clinical research texts in the light of the dreams that inspired them and the reality of their implied wishes. Implications for future clinical research evaluation are considered. Musical accompaniment is optional but recommended.
