Quality of life: Illness as a wake-up call |
Journal/Book: Top Geriatr Rehabil. 1996; 11: 7201 Mckinney Circle, Frederick, MD 21701. Aspen Publ Inc. 1-6.
Abstract: why do we do what we do as health care professionals? Surely we are committed not just to the curing of our patients, but also to helping them maintain or regain the quality of their lives as we help them restore previous levels of function. What does recovery have to do with the quality of one's life? Could it ever be said that a quick recovery actually might interfere with a life of quality? This article explores one possible function that illness and injury serve from a holistic health perspective. That function is illness as a ''wake-up call'' to explore the wisdom of one's day-to-day choices in the realization of one's destiny.
