Abstract: Over the past ten years we have seen an emerging demand for music therapy research in Europe. The young generation's need for academic credibility is linked to the establishment of postgraduate music therapy courses. New research institutes meet the challenge to cooperate on an international basis What kind of research we do, and the methods we use will be influenced by the philosophy of science that we have. The author's proposal is that science is a process, an activity, not a dogma. In a post-modern world it is our responsibility to construct themes that are appropriate to the knowledge that we need.
