Immunmodulierende Wirkung der Akupunktur als ergänzende Therapie bei allergischem Asthma

Abstract: In a randomised, controlled study on 38 patients suffering from mild allergic asthma the immunologic effects of acupuncture treatment were assessed. 20 patients (verum-group) were treated according to the rules of the traditional chinese medicine (TCM). 18 patients served as a control-group. The latter were treated on acupuncture points not specific for asthma treatment according to TCM. After 12 acupuncture treatments different lymphocyte subpopulations in the peripheral blood revealed significant increases. In vitro lymphocyte proliferation increased significantly and the eosinophile counts in the peripheral blood decreased. In addition to the demonstrated immunological changes 79% of the verum-group patients reported an improvement in condition. These results imply that in the treatment of allergic asthma acupuncture has a significantly modulating effect on the immune systeme.
