Therapeutic touch - case study: the application, documentation and outcome

Abstract: The complementary therapy therapeutic touch has recently been introduced to nurses in the UK. Research implies therapeutic touch to be beneficial. In this paper, the nursing history, underlying theory, and therapeutic touch process are described. A case study then demonstrates how therapeutic touch treatment was administered on an infectious diseases ward. Patient documentation demonstrates the self-perceived effectiveness of therapeutic touch, concurrent with a visible (photographic) improvement to the wound that received therapeutic touch therapy.
