Self-recovery and the similia principle: an experimental model |
Author(s):
Abstract: In this article, it will be described how the similia principle can best be studied in fundamental research. To this end, two questions are raised: 'What is known about the regulatory principles on which homeopathic treatment is directed?' and 'In what kind of conditions can these regulatory principles best be studied?' With respect to the first question, the phenomenon of 'self-recovery' takes a central position. It will be made clear that the essence of homoeopathy consists of a stimulation of self-recovery by application of the similia principle. By analyzing self-recovery on different levels, it follows that research on the molecular and cell biological level can use low potencies only (compounds containing molecules). In this respect, it will be studied whether stimulation of disturbed self-repair occurs by application of low doses of the disturbing agent. At the cellular level 'self-repair' can be defined as a supplementation of protector-proteins, an enhancement of resistance towards the disturbing agent and a temporal stimulation of proliferation in order to repair damage and to compensate for the occurrence of cell death within the organism. These parameters can be measured using generally valid techniques within cell biology.
