Abstract: This paper reports on some of the more important developments in the dyslexia field which have taken place in the last ten years. These include the growth of public awareness of dyslexia on a worldwide scale, advances in knowledge of its anatomical basis, and increased understanding of dyslexics' strengths and weaknesses in mathematics and music. The "phonological deficit" theory is briefly discussed, and some more speculative ideas are then considered. An important development has been the recognition that, despite their literacy difficulties, dyslexics may sometimes possess distinctive talents. (43 ref)
