Abstract: Sonography is a useful adjunct to high quality mammography in selected cases. Despite recent advances in ultrasound technology, the major roles for sonography of the breast remain the differentiation of cysts from solid masses and guidance of interventional procedures. The technique, indications, strengths, and weaknesses of breast sonography are reviewed.
