Abstract: This study investigated the perception and production of Thai tones by an adult, native speaker of Thai with a severe-to-profound sensorineural hearing impairment. Five Thai words minimally distinguished by tone were presented for identification in both natural speech and synthetic speech versions. The same five words were produced by the hearing-impaired speaker. Results indicated that both tone perception and production were impaired, but that the magnitude of the deficit was greater in perception.
