Abstract: Provides case examples of the use of music therapy with pediatric cardiac patients at the Royal Children's Hospital, Melbourne, Australia. The clinical experiences reported reflect the use of music therapy at this hospital since 1991. Several aspects of the pediatric cardiac care setting, including pediatric heart transplantation and the accompanying stresses, the effect of hospitalization on child and family, and the pediatric intensive care unit are described. The value of music therapy for cardiac patients in the ICU and isolation, patients receiving physiotherapy, and patients who are very sick and dying are highlighted.
