Antimitotic and cytostatic activity of VISCUM CRUCIATUM Sieber parasitic on CRATAEGUS MONOGYNA Jacq. |
Journal/Book: Pharm-Acta-Helv 70 (3), 233-236. 1995;
Abstract: We have determined the cytostatic activity in vitro of an aqueousextract of Viscum cruciatum Sieber (Viscaceae) parasitic on Crataegusmonogyna Jacq. (Rosaceae) in an attempt to demonstrate the possibleinfluence of the host plant in the cytostatic activity. A mitodepressiveeffect of aqueous extract on the meristematic cells of Allium cepa L.(Liliaceae) has been observed. This effect increases with theconcentration and the length of treatment, until complete inhibition ofcells division was achieved. An attempt to revive the mitotic activityof the meristems was ineffective. The samples showed a moderate in vitroactivity against HEp-2 cells. A 6-mercaptopurine solution was used as apositive control.
