Abstract: The obvious ability of defined lectins to activate (non)specific defencemechanisms supports the assumption that lectin-carbohydrate interactionsmay induce clinically beneficial immunomodulation. Recent investigationsproved that lectins, especially small nontoxic doses ofgalactoside-specific mistletoe lectin (ML-1), have immunomodulatorypotency.
