Zinktherapie bei degenerativen Gefäßleiden |
Abstract: During aging, there is an increasing reduction of zinc in the serum and in the arteries. Reduced enzyme activities of zinc metalloenzymes - key enzymes of the carbohydrate metabolism have been measured in the arteries of people with arteriosclerosis. It has been possible to significantly improve a reduced glucose tolerance in elderly patients by the administration of zinc. Also in patients with primary diabetes mellitus of type I and type II it was possible to prove a positive effect on the level of blood glucose, the HbA1 and the serum cholesterol in the case of peroral administration of zinc. In the case of people suffering from diabetes of type I it was possible to reduce the dosage of insulin. Reports about therapeutical successes with zinc in the case of arteriosclerosis were issued for the first time in 1960.Findings from animal experiments, histochemical and clinical findings indicated that disturbances in the carbohydrate metabolism play an integrating role in the development of degenerative vascular diseases. Late sequelae in people suffering from diabetes, like micro-angiopathies and macro-angiopathies depend on the quality of the guidance of the metabolism. This can be improved significantly with an administration of zinc.
