Massage in intensive care nursing: a literature review |
Abstract: It is well known that many nurses today are showing a keen interest in the use of complementary therapies in the care of their patients. In critical care areas, therapeutic massage in particular is being used more and more in an effort to humanise the care of patients in high-technology environment. This paper explores this area, through the literature, to discover whether the care of critically ill patients in Intensive Care Units (ICUs) can be improved by the incorporation of massage into their care.
