Abstract: The first "materia medica pura" and the first repertory in the history of homoeopathy (published by Hahnemann in 1805) has not recieved proper attention. One reason may be that only the latin original is available. This paper provides an outline of the historical context and for the first time a German translation of Hahnemann´s preface with early methodological considerations of drug provings.
