Harpagophytum procumbens DC. - Eine Übersicht zur Pharmakologie und Wirksamkeit -

Abstract: An exact diagnosis and the sensible use of antirheumatics are preconditions for the therapy of inflammatory rheumatic diseases. The first diagnostic measures to be taken are an anamnestic and a clinical examination followed by serological analysis of inflammatory parameters. Appropriate therapy is chosen in dependency on type and acuity of the disease; nonsteroidal antiphlogistics and glucocorticoids are available for an efficient treatment. Especially during long-term therapy these substances cause adverse events, sometimes with serious consequences. Therefore, phytotherapy is a welcome alternative. Pharmacological experiments and clinical reports suggest the use of Harpagophytum procumbens DC. as a supportive measure in the treatment of degenerative disorders of the locomotorium.
