, ,Abstract: Tumor patients have shown an extended interest in information about 'Cancer and nutrition'. This survey examined 39 popular books on this theme. 'Me examined titles were obtained through the general book register and recommendations of patients who were attending nutrition consultants. To evaluate a widely heterogenous material prominent formal criteria were developed and the presented information was classified and compared. Comments of experts on the various dietetic theories are reviewed. It could be proved that the necessary differentiation in recommendations for prevention, symptomatic therapy and dietetic possibilities for influencing the outcome of cancer (considering the oncologic parameters for remission or cure) was made only in parts. Often no discrimination is made between the various manifestations of cancer, instead a general reference to cancer or carcinosis is made.'Me dietetic recommendations vary widely and often differ from the generally accepted rules for healthy nourishment. The effect such literature has on cancer patients and their relatives should not be underestimated.
