Considering Classical Music for Use in Psychiatric Music Therapy |
Journal/Book: Music Therapy Perspectives. 1994; 12: 130-133.
Abstract: "An important consideration in the use of music in psychiatric music therapy is music's representational aspects. Treatment with classical music is compared to clinical improvisation and contrasted with popular music. The question of matching (c: Daniel Stern) ambiguous psychological and msucial processes is addressed, and the ambiguous nature of classical music serves as an argument against a prescriptive, medical model approach in psychiatric music therapy."
Note: Not a specific GIM article - but addresses improtant questions on music selection principles also relevant in GIM.
