Abstract: Describes the processes and outcomes of a group music therapy program based on psychoanalytic theories. A set of rating scales that operationalize musical and verbal behaviors during music therapy is presented, and results from 200 male and female patients (mixed psychiatric disorders) who participated in 10 music therapy sessions are reviewed. Scores on the rating scales reveal significant changes in musical improvisation behaviors, regardless of diagnostic category. (English abstract)
