Effects of high-voltage capacitor-discharge therapy an the circadian rhythms of different physiological parameters

Abstract: The aim of the study was to evaluate the effects of high-voltage capacitor-discharge therapy For this reason we studied the circadian rhythms of different physiological Parameters in two groups - one with and one without high-voltage capacitor-discharge therapy - during a three-week treatment in a health resort. One remarkable finding in patients was an evident influence an the circadian rhythm of the excretion of free cortisol in urine following high-voltage capacitor-discharge therapy. We found an obvious increase of the average daily excretion of cortisol and a phase-acceleration of cortisol. This could be an effect of high-voltage capacitor-discharge therapy an the adrenal cortex and could explain some effects of this therapy reported in the older literature.
