Ernährung im Alter

Journal/Book: Ärztezeitschrift für Naturheilverfahren. 1994; 35/5: 319-323.

Abstract: Quantitatively and qualitatively wrong nutrition is certainly a factor which accelerates aging processes and favours old age diseases, which are included by metabolic disorders. There are good chances by means of optimized nutrition to exhibit an influence on the metabolic processes and on the vascular system in such a way that the aging processes develope more favourable for the organism. However, neither "special diet" nor "special food" are required and we do not need any "senior's diet". This would only unnecessarily give the aging people the feeling no longer to belong to the community or which make tham seem to be "sick". Usually, in old age a full nutrition is sufficient which takes into account functional restrictions in the aging organism and is in accordance with nutritional physiology. The state of the set of teeth and mastication as well as tolerance with respect to fibres containing food, coarse fresh food of full cereals and coarse vegetables have specially to be considered in making up a full basic diet in old age. "Full food" overloaded with fibres can be a great mistake.
