Experimental and clinical tests on ginseng

Abstract: In clinical tests the ginseng preparation Gerimax caused a stimulation of the CNS shown by the letter-cross-over test. In mice the ginsenosides Rb-1 and Rg-1, do not penetrate the blood-brain barrier; the most probable mode of action is a stimulation of the pituitary gland (where low to moderate amounts of ginsenoside were found), which gives a secondary stimulus to the brain activity.
