Abstract: After a survey given about the development of the gynecologic balneotherapy and its professional and scientific organization the effect mechanisms and forms of application (especially of peat and brine) within the medical programmes of health-resorts (as global medical treatment) are discussed in all details. The main indications are chronic inflammations, sterility and infertility as well as hormone dysregulations (also including sexual functions and vegetative regulation troubles). Apart from severe general diseases above all acute inflammations are nemtioned as contraindications, and an earlier malignoma therapy as a rather scarce exception only. It is of great importance that the applied gynecologic balneotherapy is prescribed and controlled by a gynaecologist who is experienced in this field. The student excursions to the health-resorts organized by some universities, which unfurtunately are not numerous, (by the Munich LMU for more than twenty semesters now) can be considered as an initial trial.
