Abstract: Ginsenoside Rg1 (GS Rg1, a saponin from Ginseng) was investigated for its immunomodulatory effects by proliferative test in vitro and cytofluometric analysis. GS Rg1 exerted a modest proliferation-promoting effect on peripheral blood mononuclear cells. Upon incubation with GS Rg1, the majority of surviving cells after 6 days were CD4-T-cells and B-cells.Due to its preferential effect on these subpopulations, GS Rg1 might open a good prospect for treatment of CD4-T-cell or B-cell-deficiency diseases in the future.
