Drama therapy in small groups with the developmentally disabled |
Journal/Book: Social Work with Groups. 1993; 16: 95-108.
Abstract: Examines the use of small-group drama therapy with the developmentally disabled. Examples from a group of 5 mildly retarded women illustrate how the use of drama can help members learn socialization skills, raise self-esteem, increase self-confidence, and express feelings. All of the Ss had poor social interactions and at least 1 conflictual relationship. Ss learned to role-play, communicate needs, feel more comfortable in their bodies, and practice new behaviors.
