Abstract: The future of music therapy will depend largely on music therapists' commitment to the following areas: (1) the elaboration of a common basis for content and training that is recognizable to nonspecialists, including legislators; (2) attention to public relations; (3) the development of the outpatient and aftercare sectors; and (4) cooperation in the development and integration of a preventive psychosocial network.
