Abstract: In the course of a liaison project undertaken by the department for psychotherapy and general surgery at Universität Ulm, music therapy was introduced, mainly in the treatment of cancer patients. In one case, a 54-year-old patient, suffering from metastacizing carcinoma of the pancreas and liver, began playing the violin as a means of partly compensating for the loss of his physical abilities.
