Abstract: Details the reliability and validity tests of the Diagnostic Drawing Series (DDS), which is an interview designed by art therapists that links collection and picture analysis to Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders-III (DSM-III) and DSM-III--Revised diagnoses. Aspects of the DDS design that contribute to its reliability and validity are reviewed. Five investigations of the reliability of the DDS are described, and 3 interrater reliability tests are reported. Evidence indicates the DDS is a reliable and valid instrument for art therapists to use in clinical assessment and research.
