Abstract: On the basis of more than 20 years' practice of music therapy in both clinical and outpatient settings, some restructuring in the understanding of the method is observed, as well as changes in the image and training of music therapists. Contemporary developments have resulted in a gradual shift in the search for causes of mental illness towards speechlessness and early ego dysfunction. There is discussion of the inclusion of body therapy and of analytical and scientific components. The new position of music therapy within psychotherapy is confirmed. The question arises: What of music therapy in the age of television? (author)
