Abstract: Music therapy has been shown to provide both psychological and physiological benefits for persons diagnosed with cancer (Bailey, 1986; Brodsky, 1989; Cook, 1986; Frank, 1985; Munro & Mount, 1978). This paper describes the development and addition of music therapy to a well established Oncology Recreation Therapy Program for adult cancer patients at Duke University Medical Center. Rationale, program goals, and specific music interventions are described.
