Abstract: Umbellifers (Apiaceae) include many plants whose aromatic, medicinal and other applications have often been established by discoveries in early times. There are also several plants in this family which have highly toxic effects. These too have achieved an important place in medicine (particularly homeopathic therapy) after careful examination of the dosage. There are examples in the family of plants which became food plants or whose ethereal oils were used as ingredients for the manufacture of perfumes. This publication is intended to give an idea of the versatility of umbellifers.
