Abstract: The human diet can be assessed according to different criteria:1. What do 1 ingest (components)2. The physiological process of digestion; How, when, what should be eaten3. The individual functional capacity of the digestive system4. The quality of the effect of the diet results from the intake of nutrition, the decomposition and the metabolization.Since the content and the value of the ingested diet can be most easily determined, they are often falsely used as the sole criteria for the quality of the diet. With the help of the diagnosis according to Mayr the quality of the diet can be assessed and controlled in an easy and reliable way on the basis of the condition of the digestive organs and the total condition.Patients eating a diet with a high nutritious value are examined according to these criteria at the beginning and the end of a therapy according to Mayr In the case of these patients it has been possible to determine regularly the following very important deviations from healthy people:1. Obviously increased amount of gas in the area of the whole abdomen.2. Measurable enlargement of the osseous abdominal cavity because of a elevation of the diaphragm and of hyperlordosation.3. Irregularities of the faeces: diarrhoeas at the beginning of the change of nutrition (often with tenesmus, mucous discharge, irritations in the colon); chronically spastic obstipation in the further course and still later on atonic obstipation.4. Ubiquitous fermentation damages: increased vascular pattern (especially in the face), liver stress and its results.5. Loss of tonicity: flaccid skin, ptotic intestines, «casual posture».All mentioned changes showed involutional tendencies in the case of a less irritating, conscientiously eaten diet (e.g. milk diet according to Mayr) and after omission of dinner.The functional capacity of the digestive system of the individual is very important for the tolerance and the benefit of a diet with a high nutritious value.
