Abstract: Prof. Dr. med. K. A. Jochheim Erftstadt Zusammenfassung Rehabilitation ist vorrangig unter dem Aspekt der Wiedereingliederung ins Arbeitsleben verstanden worden. Mit der Einbeziehung der Krankenversicherung (1974) ist seit 1989 unter dem Stichwort "Rehabilitation vor Pflege" gerade die geriatrische Rehabilitation eine wachsende Forderung. Zur Zeit werden noch 90% pflegebedürftiger Menschen in der Familie versorgt. Die demographische Entwicklung läßt einschneidende Veränderungen erwarten. Daher sind Rehabilitationsangebote stationär und auf der Wohnortebene unverzichtbar um eine akzeptable Lebensqualität zu sichern. Summary Rehabilitation has predominantly been understood under the aspect of returning to the professional life. With the inclusion of the health insurance (1974) especially the geriatric rehabilitation is since 1989 a growing demand under the catchword "rehabilitation above care". At present 90% of the people who need care are still taken care of in the family. The demographic development lets expect a distinct change. Therefore it is indispensable to offer rehabilitation as in-patients and on the residential level in order to ensure an acceptable life-quality.
