Seeking a good enough mirror: Art therapy and mirroring in a prevention program's parent training group |
Journal/Book: Pratt Institute Creative Arts Therapy Review. 1992; 13: 23-30.
Abstract: Clinical material from a parent training group, mandated for the prevention of child abuse and neglect, illustrates the practical and theoretical applications of mirroring. Mirroring is described from several theoretical perspectives. The art therapist, who is also a professional actor, used art therapy and other creative modalities to enhance mirroring in the parenting group. Examples are given of ways in which the group members' artworks served to mirror their inner representational experiences of the self and lead to a growth of ego skills and mastery through the accomplishments of creation.
