Abstract: Evaluated the effectiveness of an auditory device worn by student therapists and unobtrusive instructors during music therapy sessions to transmit feedback to students. Nine undergraduates worked with either mentally handicapped adults (Exp 1) or high-risk preschoolers (Exp 2). Ss worked in a group, and each S was randomly alternated to be the experimental Ss, except one in each experiment who acted as a control. The independent variable was positive or negative instructor feedback, and the dependent variable was student and observer rating using the Standley Group Activity Leadership Skills Checklist. Ss receiving feedback/directions through the auditory device obtained significantly higher checklist scores than the control therapists. The device used appears appropriate for training music therapists.
